Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion. And no life depicts this better than that of Jesus Christ So passionate was He about His call to reconcile man to God that He invariably paid the ultimate price, through His death on the cross. No wonder the Bible refers to Him as the author and finisher of our faith. In other words, our perfect example [Hebrews 12:2]. According to Mike Murdock, Jesus Christ was “obsessed with the salvation of mankind.”
A Passion For Your Goal By Pastor Taiwo Odukoya
The drive to fulfilling purpose in life, then, is tied to what you are passionate about and, to really know what you will be successful at, there is need to discover what you are obsessed with. That is because whatever you are passionate about will consume your thought and time – the two most important aspects of your life. What you think is what you become and the amount of time you have at your disposal is determined by the way you spend your days.
Sadly, some people are not fulfilled in life because they were not driven by passion for what they believed to be their area of calling. And others are yet to discover what they are passionate about.
In explaining passion, Joss Whedon says, “Passion lies in all of us, sleeping... waiting... and though unwanted... unbidden... it will stir... open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us... guides us... passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love... the clarity of hatred... and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we'd know some kind of peace... but we would be hollow... Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we'd be truly dead.”
All great inventors in history were driven by a passion to see their imagination become a tangible reality. Passion thus enables us to overcome obstacles (both real and imagined) and to see the world as a place of infinite potential. The passionate spirit looks at every occurrence and discovers the golden aspects of what can be, what should be and, what will be. The truth is, passion will overcome every barrier to achieving your dreams because passion has its own energy.
Jochebed, Moses’ mother, was a woman with undeniable passion – a passion to see her son live, in spite of Pharaoh’s decree to kill all male Hebrew children; thus she hid her son for three months. Moses eventually lived to deliver the nation of Israel from the bondage of slavery in Egypt.
The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea is buried deep in our subconscious. It takes root in our soul and will direct us along the path to its fulfillment. You may start small, with little or nothing, but if you are passionate about it, you will succeed. Extraordinary success comes with what you are passionate about. Was there an idea you were passionate about and you discarded because you thought it may not succeed? Or are you yet to discover what you are passionate about? Discover it! It will blossom with time.
It was T. Alan Armstrong who noted that, “if there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you.”
Now you may be thinking: What steps do I take in discovering my passion?
1. Start by writing down those things that really excite you (Habakkuk 2:2) and imagine yourself succeeding in them.
2. Set goals (targets) based on your vision and put a time frame to achieving them.
3. Make periodic checks on your targets to determine how much you are achieving and the pace at which you are achieving them.
4. Surround yourself with people or at least someone to whom you can be accountable and who can always drive your progress.
5. If you fall short of your target, don’t be discouraged. Put in more effort and forge ahead.
6. Pray and study the word of God (the Bible – the harbinger of great ideas). Remember to
confess the word over your life. A good example is Philippians 4:13 which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
I am waiting to read your testimonies.
